| ABOUT THE PIECE In Revolucionarios, the Mexican composer Víctor Pichardo musically depicts the dramatic historic moments lived during the Mexican Independence War of 1810 and the Mexican Revolution of 1910. The Cantata for chorus and orchestra has three movements with approximately thirty-five minutes of duration. With thirty years of experience as a performer, arranger and composer Víctor Pichardo has been a Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee. He is the Music Director of the premiere Mexican folk music ensemble Sones de México that has collaborated with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Sinfonietta for over a decade focusing in the integration of Mexican regional styles and classical music. The Silk Road Project directed by Yo-Yo Ma invited him to participate with an original composition for which he recorded Pochteca y Fiesta. The Symphony of Oak Park-River Forest granted Mr. Pichardo with the Horban Award for his composition Alegoria Yaki. He has provided educational residencies at the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and The Smithsonian. Víctor is a disciple of the mexican maestro, Arturo Márquez. Maestro Guillermo Velázquez is the most renowned contemporary Mexican troubadour and poet of the Huapango Arribeño tradition. This Serrano style confronts two music ensembles in a battle of wits and skills embodying the notion of war. In Revolucionarios there is a troubadour who narrates the story written by Maestro Velázquez, linking different moments of these historic journeys backed by a chorus that allows the encounter between the classical and the traditional. In Revolucionarios, Victor Pichardo synthesizes revelations as a musician and living participant of Mexican history and cultural wealth. With the coming of the 100th and 200th anniversary celebration of these significant world changing events Mr. Pichardo honors Mexicans and Americans of Mexican descent by awakening consciences and heightening spirits in their path to the future.
